New York Film Locations

Musement Interactive Film Location Map

21 January 2015

Antoni Swidlicki from Musement recently contacted otsoNY regarding a project that he has been working on for the past few months. “We've created an interactive map of the world which showcases filming locations for the most popular and successful films of all time,” explained Antoni, the creator behind the digital Milan based company. “We've used Box Office hits and Oscar winners as criteria, and I'm sure it won't come as a surprise to you that New York is behind only LA on the cinemap, and features some incredible films like the Godfather, The French Connection and Die Hard with a Vengeance, each with their own recognisable locations.”

Musement is an Italian company based in Milan, which sell tickets and tours for major attractions in cities around the World, from New York to Florence. “It began with an interest in how film and travel intersect,” explains Antoni. “And how film and TV-inspired travel is becoming a growing trend, for instance with Game of Thrones filming location tours around Ireland and Malta. We wanted to look at over 60 years of cinema history and see what real world places lie behind the most famous and successful films of all time.”

The online maps include a filter which allows the user to view locations by genre. “This is an interesting perspective,” continues Antoni, “as it allows you to draw conclusions about which locations around the world are the most popular for a given genre. Would it surprise you to know, for example… that New York has been the setting for more romantic films than London and Paris combined!”

Musement is still a young company and this is the first major bit of content that they have created. “This is also our first foray into the world of cinema,” says Antoni. “But it won’t be the last. Keep your eyes on our site for further film content. We will be covering awards season as well as specific locations, looking at the sort of films that have been shot there and suggesting itineraries.”
