Lainy Newton (Amy Schumer) is a schoolteacher who has always dreamed of getting married and having children. When her long-term boyfriend Dave (Damon Wayans Jr.) fails to propose and her best friend Kate (Jillian Bell) announces that she is pregnant, Lainy becomes jealous and disappointed with the direction of her life. While shopping for maternity clothes with Kate, Lainy tries on a fake pregnancy belly. She enjoys the attention and kindness she receives, so she begins pretending that she is pregnant. The lie becomes more complicated when she befriends a genuinely pregnant woman, Megan Taylor (Brianne Howey), and falls for Megan’s brother, Josh Lewis (Will Forte). Josh believes Lainy is expecting a baby, forcing her to invent increasingly ridiculous explanations to protect her secret.
