Sully (2016)

Last Updated: Jan 2017

On Thursday, January 15th, 2009, the world witnessed the "Miracle on the Hudson" when Captain Chesley Sullenberger, nicknamed "Sully" (Tom Hanks), glided his disabled plane onto the frigid waters of the Hudson River, saving the lives of all 155 aboard. However, even as Sully was being heralded by the public and the media for his unprecedented feat of aviation skill, an investigation was unfolding that threatened to destroy his reputation and his career.

otsoNY Comments: Though the film was set in New York with some scenes filmed in there, Atlanta also stepped in as a cheap replacement for a number of scenes. The JW Marriott Atlanta Buckhead served as the Alex hotel, where Sully and his copilot, Jeff Skiles, stayed. The Atlanta Center for Medical Research was used to fill in for St. Luke’s Hospital in New York and Gwinnett Technical College in nearby Lawrenceville as the air traffic control and National Transportation Safety Board hearing room. Even the Irish bar that Sully visits was actually at 200 Peacetree Street in Atlanta.
