Fantastic Four Reboot

29 January 2015

Reboot seems to be the word of the moment. With the recent announcement about an all-female-Ghostbusters-cast and films such as The Dark Night aka Batman, The Man of Steel aka Superman and not forgetting The Amazing Spider-Man... next up is The Fantastic Four film due out this summer. It is a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel's original and longest-running superhero team which centres on four young outsiders who are teleported to an alternate and dangerous universe, which as a result alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy. Replacing the original cast members are Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Bell. But will they be as Fantastic?

otsoNY plays Top Trumps with the original cast members Ioan Gruffudd, Michael Chiklis, Chris Evans and Jessica Alba against the new crew.

It was Welsh television and film star Ioan Gruffudd who originally played the character of Reed Richards, who later gained superpowers after a cosmic radiation exposure and became Mister Fantastic. In the new version, Miles Teller takes on the part, and although he has only completed half the amount of films wins over his competitor in the three other fields.

Jessica Alba played Susan Storm aka the Invisible Woman in the original two films and goes up against Kate Mara, who has previously featured in another superhero franchise where she played the role of a U.S. Marshal. Other actresses that auditioned for the role of Susan Storm included Allison Williams, Saoirse Ronan and Margot Robbie. Although Kate has completed 26 film projects, she still falls short on her opponent, and with a lack of awards to her name and no chart positions in any of the magazine polls, Jessica Alba wins hands down in the other fields.

Chris Evans played Susan Storm’s younger brother in the original two films and later became the Human Torch. These days though, he has found a new superhero to play, that of Steve Rogers aka Captain America. Stepping up to the torch this time will be newcomer Michael B. Jordan. With the majority of his previous work being in television and low-budget films, Michael suffers defeat in the first catalogue, but regains some hope having won 5 recognised awards for his work. Sneaking just passed his opponent in the Pin-Up catalogue, Evans regains his glow having recently produced and directed the New York based indie, Before We Go.

Playing Ben Grimm aka The Thing is British actor Jamie Bell, who was made famous for his role in Billy Elliot. Since then the young actor has landed lead roles in The Jumper as well as the period drama, Jane Eyre. He has also appeared in the King Kong remake and more recently the New York action thriller, Man on a Ledge. Michael Chiklis originally the played the role and would have to sit through hours and hours of makeup to become The Thing. Winning by a small margin in the Movies completed catalogue, it is in fact Jamie Bell who takes the next two scoring 12 awards and featuring highly in several magazine polls. If not for the fact that Michael Chiklis had produced and directed a television show, the young British actor would have taken the crown, but as it is… they will just have to share it.

In conclusion, it is the original Fantastic Four team that win the Top Trumps battle by scoring 10 wins over their competitors.
