otsoNY Sponsors Museum of the City of New York

9 January 2017

This month sees otsoNY become an official sponsor for the Museum of the City of New York which is running a new film series called “Smile, It’s Your Close Up: New York Documentaries”.

Developed in collaboration with the Maysles Documentary Center, the series seeks to answer the question, “what makes New York, New York?” and was inspired by our new, permanent exhibition New York at Its Core, which traces the history of New York City from striving Dutch village today’s “Capital of the World.”

The first program in the series is called “Bridge and Tunnel” and features a screening of the Oscar shortlisted documentary “The Witness” from 2015; an investigation into the gut-wrenchingly tragic tale of Kitty Genovese’s murder in Kew Gardens, Queens in 1964. The showing will be followed by a conversation with Director James Solomon and Bill Genovese, Kitty’s brother, for a discussion that questions New York City’s “center” and “periphery,” and re-considers what happened on March 13th, 1964.

Register online at mcny.org/smile and use the special discount code SMILE for $10 tickets (usually $15).
