OTSONY recently caught up with the webmaster behind ‘Mitt New York’, translated it means ‘My New York’.

Launched back February 2011, Bjoern, who is not a US resident, but often spends time in New York City explained his reasons behind why he started the website and his thoughts about the city that never sleeps. “New York has a energy and a pulse like no other city,” explained Bjoern. “New York is the centre of the universe.” Bjoern, who actually lives in Oslo and is a keen movie location fanatic, makes 5 or 6 trips to the Big Apple a year, and during the visits, he spends his time scouting the city for trendy restaurants, wine bars and interesting places. “I try to update the site at least once a week,” explained Bjoern, “and I have a big plans for the future of the site. “ ‘My New York’ is not considered as a film location website, but it has made references to restaurants and bars that have featured in certain New York based films, and this was one of the reasons OTSONY felt it was worth reviewing his website.

On first appearance, ‘My New York’ is somewhat over-powering, offering a vast collection of photographs and facts about New York City. The entry index page or home page as most people now refer to them, surely has to be one of the longest scrolling home pages on the Internet, and as a result resembles a blog rather than a website, and for OTSONY, there seemed to be far too many adverts crowding the information. Aside from that, the site does offer a helpful menu system with links to Restaurants and Bars, Hotels, Media and Things To Do during a visit to New York. There are plenty of clickable photographs to view, which come complete with a built-in navigation system, and the only downside to the site is not easily knowing what has recently been added or updated. Overall, the site is a useful tool for anyone planning a visit to New York City and well worth a visit.
